Moldova, Cyprus to sign bilateral agreements

Chisinau, 26 September /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova and Cyprus will foster the development of joint projects by the signing of more bilateral agreements. Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur and his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides, on a visit to Chisinau, made statements to this effect at a news conference today.     

According to the Moldovan official, Cyprus is an extremely important international partner for Moldova, as well as a supporter of the European integration. 

“I have discussed with Minister Ioannis Kasoulides the bilateral relations, need to give an impetus to the highest-level political dialogue and conveying the Cypriot experience in the process of Moldova’s European integration. At the same time, we reviewed the latest developments concerning the Transnistrian conflict and the five-plus-two meetings, especially as Cyprus backs Moldova’s territorial integrity. We also considered the necessity to consolidate the bilateral legal relations; thus, instructions were given for the experts to revise the present agreements, so that they are given final touches as soon as possible,” Andrei Galbur said.    

For his part, Foreign Affairs Minister of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides noted that the evolution of the bilateral ties had been discussed at the meeting. “We spoke about possibility to cooperate in the legal sector, fighting corruption, combating the illegal migration, migrants’ security and mutual recognition of the academic documents,” Kasoulides said.   

Moldova set diplomatic relations with Cyprus on 21 February 1992, with 11 treaties signed on this period.
