Moldovan electoral body marks 20th anniversary of permanent activity

Chisinau, 16 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today marked the 20th anniversary of permanent activity. Attending the event, organized on this occasion, were Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur, Constitutional Court Judges, ,members of the diplomatic corps and former CEC employees.

Speaker Andrian Candu gave a speech, in which he congratulated the CEC members for their professionalism and awarded distinctions to the present and former employees.  

The former CEC head, Iurie Ciocan, was awarded the Diploma of Honour. The director of the Continuous Training Centre in Electoral Sector at CEC, Natalia Iuras, the head of the CEC Apparatus, Ludmila Lupascu and the chief of the Analysis and Documentation Department at the CEC Apparatus, Cristina Angheli, received the first-degree diploma on behalf the parliament.   

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur appreciated the Commission’s work and thanked the CEC members for cooperation in the process of organizing the voting abroad. “Our common goal is to ensure the right to vote of each citizen, no matter where he/she is,” Galbur said.

At the festivity, CEC head Alina Russu said that “during years, CEC experienced more processes of transformation; yet, it always resisted pressures, including the political ones.”   

“Our pride remains the people, who are involved in the electoral processes and who daily ensure the citizens’ right to safe and fair polls. In the last years, a lot of work has been done and progress was made, among which the prevention of the multiple voting, transparent ballot boxes, modern ballot booths and facilitated access of disabled people to polling stations. I can say that, at present, CEC fulfils its main mission and ensures the Moldovans’ right to vote,” Russu added.
