Chisinau, 16 October /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today participated in a festivity on marking the 20th anniversary of the permanent activity of the Central Electoral Commission, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

“On this period, the Central Electoral Commission has made constant progress in edifying an independent, fair, transparent and professional institution. This ensures an accessible electoral framework for all citizens, as well as equal treatment for all electoral contenders,” the speaker said.

According to the parliament speaker, the Central Electoral Commission remains one of the defining elements for the country’s democratic way, as well as for the preservation of the peaceful succession of power and maintenance of stability in Moldova.

“Our common priority is to provide citizens with conditions for exercising the constitutional right to elect and be elected at free and fair polls. To ensure a modern electoral process with reliable results, it is important to further develop the capacities of the Central Electoral Commission in the control of the financing of the political parties and electoral actors,” Andrian Candu said.

The speaker referred to a string of performances recorded by CEC, including in the active promotion of the human rights and gender equality, creation, for the first time ever, of a regional hub for training electoral civil servants and promotion of the participatory democracy, launching a programme of training for master’s degree in the political and electoral management, as well as creation of the International Association of Women in Electoral Management (WEM International).

“The performances achieved by the electoral authority in the last two ten-year periods are certified by the inclusion of the Central Electoral Commission in the Integrated System of Management of Information Quality and Security. The inclusive policies promoted by CEC enhance the degree of voters’ involvement in the country’s policy,” Andrian Candu noted.

The parliament speaker congratulated the team of the Central Electoral Commission on the 20th anniversary and wished it new professional performances, perseverance and trust. Andrian Candu awarded diplomas of the parliament to the most deserving CEC employees for the results registered.
