ANRE: Fuel prices in Moldova rise under influence of international oil quotations

The maximum retail prices for fuels in the Republic of Moldova will increase for 31 January – 2 February 2026, against the backdrop of rising international quotations for crude oil and petroleum products.

According to the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), the upward trend on international crude oil markets in January 2026 was driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and risks to oil transit through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as restrictions on oil exports from the Russian Federation and production disruptions in exporting countries such as Kazakhstan and Venezuela. Under these conditions, Brent oil exceeded the threshold of 71 dollars per barrel, marking its highest value in the last five months.

On the regional petroleum products market, analysis of Platts quotations shows significant increases in January: gasoline rose by approximately 72 USD/ton, and diesel by about 106 USD/ton, also reflecting strong demand on the European diesel market. These external factors are directly reflected in price levels for consumers in Moldova, given the country’s total dependence on imports of petroleum products.

According to ANRE decisions, for 31 January – 2 February 2026, the maximum retail price for COR 95 gasoline will be 23.05 lei per liter, up by 0.06 lei and for standard diesel 19.92 lei per liter, up by 0.09 lei.

ANRE notes that it continues to monitor developments on international exchanges and assures consumers that the price-setting mechanism is transparent and guarantees the correct formation of fuel tariffs.
