China open to increasing imports of wines, agri-food products from Moldova; discussions held by Moldovan foreign affairs minister in Beijing

Moldova is focusing on diversifying and expanding exports of agri-food and wine products to foreign markets, with an emphasis on strengthening its presence on the Chinese market. This was the focus of a today’s discussion in Beijing by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi Vice Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, Ling Ji. The Chinese side expressed openness to increasing imports.

“Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi highlighted Moldova’s interest in diversifying and increasing exports of agri-food and wine products. He also proposed that the Chinese side considers the possibility of adjusting customs duties applied to imports of Moldovan wines, in order to strengthen their presence on the Chinese market,” a statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry reads.

At the same time, Mihai Popsoi welcomed the recent signing of documents that allow the export to China of sunflower seed flour and grape seed flour produced in Moldova, describing this step as an important one for expanding the range of Moldovan products available to Chinese consumers.

Mihai Popsoi also underlined the importance of promoting Made in Moldova products, as well as intensifying contacts between the business communities of the two countries. He also thanked the Chinese side for supporting the participation of Moldovan companies in economic exhibitions organized in China, as well as for expanding their visibility on major Chinese digital platforms.

For his part, Vice Minister of Commerce Ling Ji noted the quality and potential of wines and grapes from Moldova, which are appreciated by Chinese consumers. In this regard, he reaffirmed the Chinese side’s openness to increasing imports and strengthening cooperation between the relevant institutions of the two states, in order to facilitate access of Moldovan products to the Chinese market.

At the end of the meeting, the two officials agreed to identify concrete projects and to further develop economic, trade and investment relations between Moldova and the People’s Republic of China.

During the talks, the officials reviewed the current state of economic and trade cooperation between the two states, the evolution of trade exchanges, as well as opportunities for attracting investment in Moldova. The sides also addressed prospects for cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, agriculture, logistics and electronic commerce.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi today also had a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi in Beijing. The two officials discussed the evolution of the Moldova–China relations and prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in the economic and trade fields, through expanding exports and facilitating access of domestic products to the Chinese market.
