IMF provides Moldova with technical assistance in tax administration
Moldova on December 1-12 is hosting an International Monetary Fund (IMF) technical assistance mission focused on modernizing the country’s tax administration. Activities started at the Ministry of Finance, where Minister Andrian Gavrilita met IMF's Permanent Representative in Moldova Svetlana Cerovich and the mission team led by Enriko Aav, senior economist in the Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD).
The meeting’s goal was to discuss the modernization priorities for tax administration, the mission's directions and objectives. Minister Gavrilita emphasized the importance of international expertise in strengthening institutional capacities and aligning with global best practices.
‘’The IMF mission will support the State Tax Service in more key areas: developing an organizational compliance programme; implementing compliance risk management principles in core tax administration functions; drafting a a basic document on the compliance programme; and enhancing analytical capabilities for assessing tax compliance risks,’’ explains the Ministry of Finance.
During the two weeks, IMF experts will have meetings with representatives of the State Fiscal Service, in order to analyze progress and establish future steps. At the end of the mission, a report with specific recommendations for modernizing and streamlining the tax system of Moldova will be drafted.
This mission reaffirms the country's commitment to implementing international standards in the fiscal sector and supporting the business environment through transparent and efficient management.
