Italy's Ambassador in Chisinau says Italian companies can take advantage of opportunities of Moldova's new European path
Italy and Moldova strengthen economic cooperation: the annual congress of Italian and joint companies opens in Chisinau
Italian Ambassador to Moldova, H.E. Giuseppe Maria Perricone and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea today inaugurated the works of the annual congress of Italian and joint companies, organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Moldova. The event brings together representatives of the business community, government institutions, and investors interested in strengthening and expanding the bilateral cooperation.
In his speech, Ambassador Perricone emphasized that the meeting was not only a dialogue space between entrepreneurs and authorities, but also an essential platform for deepening the Moldovan-Italian relations. The diplomat highlighted that the result of the September 28 elections provided Moldova with political stability, an important premise for launching extensive industrial and digital modernization processes.
"This transformation, projected for the medium term, must go hand in hand with harmonizing legislation with European Union standards, and Italian companies can directly benefit from the new economic opportunities," noted the ambassador.
Giuseppe Maria Perricone reaffirmed the commitment of the Italian Embassy to support the Italian business environment present in Moldova and to promote Italian industrial and technological excellence in new collaboration projects.
For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea noted the importance of the continuity of Moldova’s European path, reconfirmed by voters at the 2024 and 2025 elections.
The official reiterated the role of the Italian business community in the country's economic development and said that Moldova aims to become a reconstruction and investment hub for Ukraine.
The congress continues with presentations, discussion panels, and B2B sessions, aimed at identifying concrete investment areas and joint economic and industrial development projects.
Moldovan-Italian economic relations in recent years
The relations between Moldova and Italy have witnessed constant boosting in recent years, especially on the economic, commercial, and investment dimensions. Italy stays among the main European partners of Moldova and the bilateral cooperation gradually extends beyond traditional trade exchanges, including direct investments, industrial collaborations, social projects and energy initiatives.
Growing bilateral trade
The economic exchanges between the two states have visibly diversified. Moldova primarily exports textile products, footwear, agricultural products and industrial components to Italy. Conversely, Italy supplies the Moldovan market with consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, industrial machinery, electrical equipment and food products. The trade structure remains complementary, which stimulates the continuity of commercial flows.
Extended presence of Italian capital in Moldova
Many Italian companies operate in Moldova, both independently and in joint formats with local partners. They are present in such industries as textiles, automotive, agriculture, services, winemaking, construction, and IT. Italian investors are attracted by the skilled workforce, competitive production costs and Moldova's proximity to the EU market.
Institutional cooperation and support for development
Parallel to economic ties, Italy has supported Moldova through social, energy and modernization programmes, including projects focused on energy efficiency, infrastructure, and technical assistance. In recent years, intergovernmental collaborations have increased, aiming to boost economic resilience, digitalization, and industrial transition.
Social and human dimension
The presence of a large community of Moldovan citizens in Italy represents an additional bridge between states. Cultural ties, remittances and educational cooperation initiatives contribute to strengthening the bilateral relationship. Italy remains one of the most important destinations for the Moldovan Diaspora, and this connection facilitates economic collaborations and investments over time.
Trends and perspectives
Economic cooperation has the potential to expand into such areas as renewable energy, infrastructure, food industry and technology. At the same time, more and more Italian companies are exploring the Moldovan market as a production and distribution point towards the regional space.
The development of the relationship is stimulated by Moldova's European path and the investment interest of the Italian business community.
The bilateral Moldovan-Italian relations have evolved from traditional trade exchanges into a solid economic partnership with long-term prospects. Italy stays an active investor and a strategic partner for Moldova and current directions indicate significant potential for deepening industrial, commercial and technological cooperation.
