Minister of Agriculture about impact of frost on orchards nationwide: We are monitoring situation

The authorities are monitoring the situation and collecting data from the regions to determine to what extent the recent bad weather conditions have affected orchards. Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga made the statement today.

The minister emphasized that so far no specific information has been received about orchards affected by frost.

“No information has been received from farmers indicating a more serious situation. We are currently monitoring the situation and awaiting information from colleagues in the agricultural departments in order to identify whether the situation in the orchards has worsened. Up to now we have not received any requests,” stated Catlabuga.

At the same time, the minister noted that in recent years farmers have implemented several advanced technologies that allow them to protect agricultural crops from the negative effects of difficult weather conditions.

In recent days, the Republic of Moldova has faced bad weather conditions, characterized by rainfall and sleet, as well as temperatures below 0°C, which created conditions for the formation of ice and frost.
