Energy Minister: No significant adjustment to electricity tariff

There are no significant adjustment to electricity tariff. Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu made the statement today. He mentioned that the tariffs could remain at their current levels. The final decision is to be approved by ANRE, after it examines the applications submitted by the supplier.

“The electricity supply companies have submitted applications for tariff adjustment. But in the meantime, let us not forget the fact that Energocom has submitted an application to adjust the gas tariff. As a result of this, the two operators that produce thermal energy and electricity, Termoelectrica and CET Nord, have also submitted applications for tariff adjustment. Taking these developments into account, the application submitted by the electricity suppliers is to be evaluated by ANRE, but in fact there are no elements for a significant adjustment of the tariff. Yes, electricity purchases in December and January were made at a price slightly higher than the price included in the tariff. We know very well what the general and regional situation was at the electro-energy level and, accordingly, in the coming period, based on forecasts, if the weather also starts to work in our favor, the weighted average purchase price is expected to show a decreasing trend. So we expect ANRE to present its position on that request, but there is no significant adjustment, none is envisaged,” stated Junghietu before today’s Government meeting.

The official stressed that the final decision will be taken by the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) and admitted that the tariffs could remain at their current levels.

“There is a possibility that the tariffs will remain as they are now, but ANRE will have its say,” underlined Junghietu.

Last week, electricity suppliers submitted to ANRE applications for adjusting the tariff paid by final consumers. ANRE announced that it is examining the applications, taking into account the applicable methodology and the forecast of electricity price developments on the local and regional markets. Subsequently, the Agency will publish for public consultation the draft decisions on adjusting regulated tariffs and prices, also explaining the factors that influence their level.

The latest change in electricity prices was approved in the summer of 2025, when electricity became cheaper. Currently, final consumers in the north of the country pay 4 lei/kWh (excluding VAT), while those in the center and south of the country pay 3. 59 lei /kWh (excluding VAT).
