Moldova receives 150 million euros from EBRD for strategic road modernization
The Republic of Moldova benefits from an additional 150 million euros from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the modernization of strategic roads, under the Fifth Road Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project. Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, and EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso signed loan agreement amendment today.
The funds will have a direct impact on regional connectivity and links with the European Union.
“The investment will enable the modernization and expansion of the M2 road, which forms Chisinau's beltway; the rehabilitation of the M1 Chisinau-Leușeni section, ensuring a direct connection with Romania; the implementation of a Road Asset Management System with modern digital tools for road monitoring and maintenance,” estimated Vladmir Bolea.
According to officials, the project supports Moldova's integration into the TEN-T network, sustainable economic development, and European connectivity and solidarity goals.
This funding is part of a broader road rehabilitation program funded by the EBRD. To date, the bank has invested 692 million euros in road infrastructure modernization in Moldova. In total, the EBRD has invested nearly 2.9 billion euros in 193 projects, 64% of which are allocated to sustainable infrastructure.
