Moldova's power system operating under pressure after Russia's attacks on Ukraine; energy minister says Moldelectrica enterprise asks Romania to provide emergency aid
The power system of Moldova is operating under pressure, following the massive attacks launched by the Russian Federation on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu has said. The strikes damaged a significant power group in the region nearby Moldova and the interconnection lines have come close to their maximum load.
As a result of the exceeding of the planned flow, the national operator Moldelectrica has asked for emergency aid from Romania for the following hours, a measure meant to stabilize the network and avoid the risk of overloads.
“The interconnection lines are almost at their limit. Following the exceeding of the planned flow, Moldelectrica proactively requested emergency aid from Romania for the next few hours. This support will ensure the safe operation of the power system and prevent possible disconnections,” said Minister Dorin Junghietu.
The Energy Ministry urges the population to use electricity rationally, especially during peak hours, in order to reduce pressure on the network. Authorities are constantly monitoring developments and will provide further information as the situation evolves.
According to officials, the measures taken are preventive, and the quick collaboration with the Romanian side contributes to maintaining Moldova's energy stability in the context of regional tensions.
This will ensure the safe operation of the power system and prevent possible overloads.
