Moldovan Agriculture Ministry launches Buy from Home campaign, urging citizens to support local producers

The Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) has launched the national campaign, Buy from Home, an initiative encouraging citizens to choose local products not only during the winter holidays, but throughout the year. The campaign aims to promote local producers, support the national economy and strengthen the agri-food sector.

‘’By supporting local producers, we aid rural development and increase farmers' incomes. I want to encourage consumers to place local products on their holiday tables and the press to be our partner in promoting this message,’’ said Agriculture Minister Ludmila Catlabuga, after the today's government meeting.

The initiative seeks to enhance the visibility of agricultural and food products made in Moldova and boost domestic consumption. The campaign emphasizes the economic, social and quality advantages of local products.

‘’By choosing Moldovan products, consumers directly contribute to maintaining added value in the country. Farmers can retain their employees, make development investments and the state collects taxes and contributions that support the public budget. Greater demand for local products accelerates investments in agriculture and processing. Producers can modernize technologies, expand production capacities and improve products’ quality, thereby strengthening the sector's long-term competitiveness,’’ Catlabuga noted.

MAIA estimates that the revenues generated by local production return to communities through the acquisition of equipment, services and investments in infrastructure, contributing to maintaining economic activity in villages and the sustainable development of rural areas.

‘’Consuming local products strengthens the food security of Moldova, reduces dependency on imports and enhances the national economy's resilience against external fluctuations. We urge the population to prioritize 'Home-grown' products at festive tables and in daily consumption. Each choice at the shelf contributes to the growth of the agri-food sector and supports local producers,’’ summarizes the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
