Deputy PM, deputy chief of Mission of U.S. Embassy in Moldova analyze prospects for Moldovan-American cooperation in infrastructure

The prospects for the Moldovan-American cooperation in the infrastructure sector have been discussed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea with Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova Nick Pietrowicz.

The topics of discussion focused on the work of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) and the portfolio of projects under implementation, with an emphasis on the modernization of railway infrastructure and attracting investment in this sector.

Nick Pietrowicz reconfirmed U.S. support for Moldova and noted that U.S. entrepreneurs would be informed about existing investment opportunities in the infrastructure area in Moldova.

“We are pleased to be the strategic partner of Moldova. We will inform American companies about the investment opportunities existing in the infrastructure sector. The message we convey is clear: Moldova is advancing in the implementation of European standards in strategic development areas. We appreciate especially the progress achieved in recent years in improving roads’ infrastructure,” said Nick Pietrowicz.

The officials reviewed the current situation of the state enterprise, Railway of Moldova, and the efforts to modernize the sector.

“The railway is a strategic economic operator for Moldova and its modernization will allow for increased transport capacity, reduced travel time for trains and improved safety for passengers and freight,” said Vladimir Bolea.

At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister presented the ongoing projects for the modernization of railway infrastructure, including strategic connections, such as the Falciu–Cantemir section, as well as initiatives for the development of roads’ infrastructure, the modernization of Marculesti Airport and regional and local development programmes.

Vladimir Bolea emphasized that the ministry’s portfolio was a complex one, and all activities were based on two important benchmarks: the benefits brought to people and the economic impact on the country’s development.
