National Bank awarded at Romanian PR Award 2025 for MIA project
The National Bank of Moldova /NBM/ received the Silver Award in the Tech PR & Communication of Innovation category of the Romanian PR Award for the campaign "A thousand reasons to try MIA". According to the organizers, the awarded projects were selected by an international jury of communication experts from 22 countries, being appreciated for rigor, creativity and impact.
The distinction marks another recognition of MIA project – instant payments, one of the most advanced payment infrastructures in the region. The system, developed by the NBM, allows immediate transfers, 24/7, between bank accounts in the Republic of Moldova, using only the beneficiary's phone number.
NBM Governor Anca Dragu stated that the award confirms the value of the project and the way it was communicated.
“MIA is one of the most visible transformations of recent years, with a direct impact on how people manage their finances, the efficiency of businesses, and interactions with public institutions. The award given to the NBM shows that we can innovate and effectively communicate these changes,” Anca Dragu mentioned.
In less than two years since its launch on 12 March 2024, MIA has reached 800,000 individual users, being used by every second mobile banking client. The expansion to the business environment, achieved on July 31, 2024, accelerated the adoption of the system: over 11,000 payment points currently accept payments with MIA, and the volume of corporate transactions exceeds 100 million lei per month. Since July 31, 2025, public services can be paid instantly through EVO and MPay platforms.
The NBM states that the success of MIA is due to the collaboration between the monetary authority, banks, payment providers, and users, with the project becoming an important pillar in the digitalization of the national economy.
The 2025 award is the second consecutive Silver Award for the institution. In 2024, the NBM was awarded for the national campaign "Financial education for all". The Romanian PR Award 2025, on its 23rd edition, is one of the most important communication competitions in the regional space.
