Naval maneuvers in Giurgiulesti Port of Moldova temporarily suspended over adverse weather conditions

The Naval Agency of Moldova announces the temporary suspension of all port maneuvers at the Giurgiulesti International Free Port starting from February 18, 2026, at 10:00. The decision was issued by the Port’s Authority, as a result of unfavorable weather conditions that may endanger navigation’s safety.

According to the naval authorities, the area is affected by strong northerly winds, with gusts of 18–19 meters per second, as well as reduced visibility down to approximately 400 meters because of snowfall.

"These factors create major risks for carrying out berthing, departure and maneuvering operations of vessels inside the port. Therefore, all maneuvers for vessels entering and leaving, as well as internal movements within the port basin have been suspended. The measure is preventive in nature and aims to avoid maritime incidents, technical damage or dangerous situations for crews, port infrastructure and cargo," the cited source explains.

The resumption of port activities will be allowed only after weather conditions improve and a new notice to navigator is issued. The information will be transmitted via the VHF maritime radio station on channels 14 and 16, used for operational communication between the Port’s Authority and vessels.

The Naval Agency recommends that ship masters maintain constant contact with the Giurgiulesti Port Authority, follow the instructions communicated by radio and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the vessel and crew during the suspension of maneuvers.

The authorities emphasize that the restriction is temporary and will stay in force until weather conditions allow operations to resume safely.
