One month passes after joining Single Euro Payments Area: Moldovans save 1.4 million euros on transfer fees

Citizens of Moldova have saved 1.4 million euros on transfer fees in the first month since the country joined SEPA—the Single Euro Payments Area, according to data presented by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM).

In the period after October 6, 2025, the date on which Moldova became part of the Single Euro Payments Area, the volume of transactions to and from the country increased by 300 million euros, exceeding 1.3 billion euros. The number of transactions conducted through SEPA was by 25 per cent higher than in the same period of the previous year, with more than half of them made by individuals.

Eight commercial banks of Moldova have already joined the SEPA system, an infrastructure integrating 41 European states and allowing for fast, secure and low-cost or zero-cost transfers. Membership provides citizens and companies with access to euro payment services under the same conditions as in European Union countries, contributing to facilitating financial flows and bringing the national economy closer to European standards.

Moldova initiated the process of joining the Single Euro Payments Area on January 30, 2024, by submitting the official application to the European Payments Council (EPC). On March 6, 2025, the EPC approved the inclusion of Moldova in the SEPA geographical area.
