OPEM Moldova trading platform to be tested with electric power buying, selling offers

The OPEM Moldova trading platform on December 3-5 will be tested with offers of buying and selling electric power.

According to the Ministry of Energy, OPEM will enroll and configure for testing only participants who have registered for the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) or have submitted their registration applications by November 27 inclusively.

“The operation of the DAM will allow for competitive electric power trading with delivery on the day following the trading day, playing an essential role in forming a fair and equitable price for participants,” noted the Ministry of Energy.

In accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, the electric power market consists of the bilateral contracts market and organized electric power markets, which include: the day-ahead market – DAM and the intraday market - IDM, the electric power balancing market, and the system services market.

Presently, 96 companies of Moldova hold licenses to supply electric power, while in the competitive/unregulated market, only three suppliers are active, with market shares of 1.52 per cent, 0.14 per cent and 0.34 per cent, respectively. According to estimates, the launch of organized markets is expected to significantly increase the share of suppliers in the unregulated electric power market.
