Prime Minister-deisgnate: For first time, we are entering winter assured that we will pass without cataclysms in energy sector
It is for the first time that the Republic of Moldova enters the cold season, ensuring it will pass without cataclysms and acts of panic in the energy sector, Prime Minister-designate Alexandru Munteanu said today. The official underlined that Moldova's energy independence is crucial for national security and that the country has made significant steps in recent years to strengthen this sector.
"The energy independence of the Republic of Moldova is crucial for national security, and many things have already been done in this regard. I am glad that, for the first time, we are entering a winter ensuring we'll pass without cataclysms, without catastrophes, and without acts of panic that happen when a political solution is sought. Now we have independence, and we are working on creating a more efficient framework," emphasized Alexandru Munteanu.
He stated that Moldova will strengthen its energy independence with the commissioning, by the end of the current year, of the Vulcănești – Chișinău power line.
"From the moment when, by the end of the year, the power line passing through Vulcănești opens, we will practically be guaranteed energy independence. (...) We have a program including our partners, the World Bank, the European Bank, regarding green energy and other energy sources. The USA has granted us assistance of 130 million dollars, precisely for the development of the energy framework. And Minister Junghietu is in constant contact with our partners. There are many programs," he said.
Dorin Junghietu, who has held the position of Minister of Energy and has been proposed for a new mandate, stated that to strengthen the country's energy security, contributing to economic development, Moldova must primarily develop energy generation.
"We will focus on three important aspects: the construction and development of interconnection systems; we will continue to promote investments in renewable resource projects because, as a country, we do not have oil and gas resources, but we have immense potential for renewable resources. Renewable resources are a variable resource, so they must come and will come together with storage systems, and for peak hours, when energy is most expensive and there is an imbalance in the system, we will attract investments for gas-based balancing systems. The thermoelectric power plant is also included in the plan because the production facilities of Termoelectrica and CET-Nord power plants are quite outdated, and we are working on replacing them," clarified Dorin Junghietu.
Munteanu went to Parliament today to seek the confidence vote of the deputies, presenting the work program and governmental team.
