Prime Minister, President of Romanian Commodities Exchange approach expanding trading in Moldova

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu met today with Gabriel Purice, President of the Romanian Commodities Exchange (BRM), who is visiting Chișinău, to analyze the activity of BRM EST – the Moldovan subsidiary – and the prospects of expanding trades to other types of products.

Prime Minister Munteanu congratulated the BRM leadership for the achievements in our country and for its significant contribution to the liberalization of the gas market and to strengthening energy security. In just three years since the launch of BRM EST, transactions have exceeded 650 million euros, including natural gas, fuels, metals, and construction materials, while the estimated contribution to the state budget through taxes, VAT, and levies was 52 million euros.

For his part, Junghietu expressed interest in developing a gas transportation system balancing platform proposed by BRM. This would allow the Republic of Moldova to align with regional best practices for balancing gas transport networks and utilizing market benchmarks, like TTF and other regional references, contributing to transparency and fair price formation.

Furthermore, discussions also covered the possibility of expanding BRM's activities to other types of products, which would create conditions for the use of standardized auction platforms even outside the energy sector.

BRM EST has been designated as the operator of the wholesale natural gas market by the National Energy Regulatory Agency for a period of 10 years. In the 2024–2025 period, over 35 participants have been registered on various market segments, with over 130 million cubic meters of natural gas traded. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Moldovan authorities to support the development of stock markets and modern energy infrastructure, emphasizing the role of BRM EST in enhancing transparency, efficiency, and security of the national energy system.
