Deputy Prime Minister presented progress and objectives in economic sector

The Republic of Moldova has recorded significant progress in the economic field, despite the difficult regional situation and multiple challenges. Reforms in this sector will be amplified, and 2026 will be a year of growth, said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugeniu Osmochescu. He presented today the main achievements of recent months and the priorities for the coming period.

“2025 was a very important year. In January–September 2025, the gross domestic product increased by 2% compared to the same period in 2024. Data for the 11 months of 2025 show economic growth of at least 2.7% of GDP, which exceeds the estimates we had made and which has also been confirmed by our international partners,” said Osmochescu.

Among the sectors that generated the highest growth are agriculture, construction, information technology sector, communications, domestic trade, energy industry, health services, social assistance, education, and financial-banking activities.

At the same time, in January–November 2025, industrial production increased by 4.9%. The volume of investments grew by 22 percent. At the same time, the number of employed people reached 856,000, which represents an increase of 64,000 jobs in 2025.

“Moldovans have invested more, exported more, and worked more. All the figures demonstrate that we, in a very volatile and very complicated regional and global context, have continued to grow and will keep growing. 2026 will be a year of growth. In 2026 we aim to do even more,” emphasized Osmochescu.

The official also said that in the last three months, from November 2025 to January 2026, financing totaling 699 million lei was allocated in the form of grants and tax exemptions for companies that invested in the modernization of the Republic of Moldova. The funds were granted through ODA programs to a total of 3,163 beneficiaries. In addition, 12 beneficiaries of state aid made investments of over one billion lei in just three months.

Another area referred to by Osmochescu is the implementation of debureaucratization measures for the business environment. According to him, the legislative amendments aimed at simplifying the rules for doing business will allow entrepreneurs to save around 264 million lei annually, money that can be reinvested in their businesses.

“In November–December we managed to adopt a broad package of amendments to legislative acts as well as to regulatory acts in order to remove burdens from the shoulders of entrepreneurs. Through the changes we made for 206 types of economic activity, we amended the relevant permitting acts for 12 economic sectors, which account for 29% of 2024 GDP. Because of previous bottlenecks, when permits were not issued in due time, an entrepreneur could have a business blocked and incur losses. The impact on the business environment of the initiative approved in December 2025, with effects starting from 1 January 2026, concerns savings of 264 million lei per year for the private sector, money that can be reinvested,” said Osmochescu.

At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister presented the priorities of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization for the next period. According to him, the top priority remains accession to the European Union. The second priority will be simplifying the relationship between entrepreneurs and the state.

“In 2026 we are planning a broad package of amendments to legislative and regulatory acts concerning the business environment. All areas will be reviewed. Permits and bureaucratic barriers that stand in the way of registering and operating a business will be reviewed. We have an ambitious plan,” the official noted.

The third priority announced by Eugeniu Osmochescu is attracting investments.
