Republic of Moldova could become hub in Ukraine’s reconstruction process

The Republic of Moldova has the potential to become a very important link, possibly even a hub in Ukraine’s reconstruction. The statement was made by Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova Paun Rohovei, who announced that the Government of Chișinău has appointed a special representative responsible for the reconstruction process of the neighboring state.

According to the Ambassador, special representative of the Government of the Republic of Moldova for Ukraine’s reconstruction is Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu.

“Peace will come, and the Republic of Moldova has every possibility to become a very important link, possibly even a hub, in the process of Ukraine’s reconstruction. With great respect and appreciation, we received the news that in Chișinău, thanks to the swift and very intense work of the Government, a special representative of the Government of the Republic of Moldova for the reconstruction of Ukraine has already been appointed. It is Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu, an extraordinary economist, a man with extensive experience and a person eager to accomplish great things,” Paun Rohovei said.

The Ambassador highlighted the advanced economic cooperation between the two states and emphasized the need to implement new infrastructure projects to accelerate collaboration.

“The Republic of Moldova is a transit country for our goods, including to markets in the European Union. Secondly, we have economic and trade exchanges with the Republic of Moldova, and the potential is great, but we specifically need infrastructure that would ensure the movement of goods and people. Therefore, both in Kyiv and in Chișinău, some of the priorities on the agenda of our bilateral relations, at government level, are infrastructure projects,” said Rohovei.

In this context, the Ambassador referred to the importance of the project to build the bridge over the Dniester River Cosăuți - Yampil.

“The bridge construction project over the Nistru, Cosăuți–Yampil, is a project that will open new opportunities for both countries. The signing of this agreement on the future opening of a new border crossing point with Ukraine in the north of the Republic of Moldova is a very weighty building block in the foundation we are laying to develop infrastructure in the northern part of the Republic of Moldova. Unfortunately, at present, in order to transport goods to the Republic of Moldova or through the Republic of Moldova, we have to make many detours. The implementation of this project will open many opportunities both for entrepreneurs from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, and for international operators who will transport goods,” the official noted.

Paun Rohovei thanked the authorities of Chișinău for the support offered to Ukraine, also mentioning the partnership in the energy sector.
