VIDEO // Energy Minister: Moldova supplied with energy through alternative routes, while Isaccea–Vulcănești line remains disconnected

The Republic of Moldova is currently supplied with electricity from domestic sources and through imports via alternative routes, given that the Isaccea–Vulcănești high‑voltage line remains disconnected after the attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu said today.

According to the official, the line was disconnected on the previous evening following attacks by the Russian Federation on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. To maintain power supply, the transmission system operator “Moldelectrica,” in cooperation with the regional operators Transelectrica in Romania and Ukrenergo in Ukraine, activated alternative routes for energy delivery.

The minister noted that among these solutions are the four 110 kV power lines with Romania, which were previously tested and proved functional, including during the partial blackout of 31 January.

“At 10:40 a.m., thermal power plants and renewable sources were producing more electricity than the consumption recorded at that time,” noted Dorin Junghietu, emphasizing the role of investments in renewable energy in ensuring the stability of the system.

At the same time, the minister called on the population and economic agents to use electricity rationally, especially during peak hours, in order to reduce pressure on the grids.
