VIDEO // Moldova's industry accelerates: 7.2 percent growth in first five months of 2026

The volume of industrial production increased by 7.2 per cent during January–May 2026, compared to the same period of the previous year. The growth was mainly supported by the manufacturing industry and the production and supply of energy.

According to data by Economic Development and Digitalization Ministry and the National Statistics Bureau, the most dynamic branches of the manufacturing industry were metal constructions +50.1 per cent, the food industry +13.7 per cent, the manufacture of textile products +12.7 per cent, and the manufacture of footwear and bags +11.9 per cent.

At the same time, significant results were recorded in the capital goods industry (+17.8 per cent) and in energy-related activities (+13.3 per cent). The positive trend was supported by growth in the Central region (+8.4 per cent), the Northern region (+6.2 per cent), and the Chisinau municipality (+6.1 per cent).

The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization emphasized that these results confirm that industry stays an important pillar of the national economy, contributing to economic development, the creation of added value and the strengthening of Moldova’s competitiveness.
