Moldovan PM says European integration government’s top priority
President Maia Sandu today chaired a meeting of the National Commission for European Integration (CNIE), the first one attended by members of the new government led by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.
During the meeting, the report on the implementation of the National Accession Programme for the first half of 2026 was presented. The participants also analyzed the progress made in fulfilling the intermediate benchmarks related to Chapters 23 and 24, which concern justice, fundamental rights, freedom and security. These areas represent the foundation of the entire accession process, and the pace of reforms in these fields depends, first and foremost, on the work carried out at home.
The meeting’s agenda also included the European integration priorities of the new cabinet of ministers. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan underlined that the European integration is the government’s top priority, while the relaunch of the economy and the increased efficiency of the state must support this strategic goal.
The preparations for the 2026 Enlargement Package, the annual assessment of the country’s progress by the European Commission were also discussed. The head of state stressed that Moldova’s advancement on the European path was built through consistently implemented reforms and concrete results that are felt by citizens.
The Moldovan president called on state institutions, central and local public authorities, civil society and the private sector to stay mobilized and coordinate their efforts, in order to maintain the pace of transformation.
The National Commission for European Integration will continue to meet regularly, so as to monitor the implementation of the commitments undertaken.
