Moldovan PM, World Bank's team discuss priorities of cooperation
The World Bank's portfolio in Moldova and priorities for future support, aligned with the government's agenda, have been discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and the World Bank team, led by Robert Saum, Country Director for Eastern Europe.
The PM appreciated the support provided by the World Bank to Moldova and its role in supporting the structural reforms implemented by the authorities. The prime minister also emphasized the importance of continuing collaboration on segments related to improving human capital, economic growth and attracting investments in strategic sectors for the country.
The officials also discussed cooperation in the preparation and implementation of projects from the Reforms’ Agenda. At the same time, the sides emphasized the need to streamline the mechanisms of projects’ implementation and increase the absorption capacity of funds, according to the best international practices used by the World Bank.
Currently, there are 23 ongoing projects in Moldova carried out with the support of the World Bank. These projects focus on modernizing agriculture, energy interconnection with Romania, improving the efficiency of the centralized thermal energy supply system, water supply and sanitation, improving education quality and enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises.
In the perspective of the next cooperation period, planned projects include: the construction of the Straseni–Gutinas electrical line financed by the U.S. Government, a new digitalization project that includes interoperability, cybersecurity and the digitalization of the medical sector, as well as Phase II of the STEEM project, dedicated to energy efficiency in public buildings.
