Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu attended the farewell ceremony held in Chișinău, in memory of the fighter for independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, former deputy of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Senator in the Romanian Parliament - Ilie Ilașcu. He passed away at the age of 73 on 17 November 2025, and is being buried today at Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest.
'He is the man who dedicated his life to the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. With his head held high, even when threatened and tortured, Ilie Ilașcu defended our national identity and our right to be free with dignity. It is important to honor his memory, to learn from the sacrifice he made, and to pass this lesson of courage in the fight for freedom and independence to future generations,' mentioned Munteanu.
Ilie Ilașcu was born on July 30, 1952, in the village of Taxobeni, Fălești district. Since 1988, he became one of the founders of the National Liberation Movement in Bessarabia.
