Moldovan Prime Minister at European Business Summit in Brussels
“The Republic of Moldova is transforming at an unprecedented pace - aligning its legislation, institutions, economy and business environment with European standards - turning challenges into momentum and complexity into opportunity.” Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu made the statement at European Business Summit, held in Brussels.
In his speech, the Prime Minister approached the economic reforms implemented by the government that are creating an increasingly favorable business environment. He noted that despite several shocks, the economy of the Republic of Moldova is not only stable but is speeding up.
Priorities were specified as strengthening production, innovation, and investment-driven growth; accelerating the energy transition; developing the information technology sector as a dynamic growth pole; expanding exports of high value-added services; increasing domestic demand through real wage increases.
“We will address inherited vulnerabilities with a broad reform agenda: modernizing regulations, better governance and creating an investment climate to mobilize private capital and partnerships with the EU,” he added.
In this process, our country is supported by the EU Growth Plan, worth 1.9 billion euros - the largest support package in the country's history. Over 150 reforms will be implemented by 2027, and the economic growth rate is estimated to increase to 7% by 2028.
The Prime Minister also mentioned integration into the European single market. The European Union remains our main partner: 68% of exports and 53% of imports are conducted on the EU market, export quotas for products are increasing, and for a range of products, the market is fully liberalized.
Regarding investment promotion, the activity of industrial parks, the regional state aid mechanism, the launch of the Stock Exchange and other achievements were mentioned. A field registering a very good level is digital transformation and cybersecurity. Currently, the requirements for Roaming like Home are being fulfilled, which will come into effect on 1 January 2026.
“The Republic of Moldova is no longer a small market on the edge of Europe. It is becoming a growth platform, a hub of digital innovation, a reliable partner in the single market, and a future EU member state, preparing responsibly and diligently,” Munteanu said. He urged the European business community to invest in Moldova.
The edition of the European Business Summit marks the 25th anniversary. The event provides a platform for dialogue to identify solutions necessary for the European Union to remain resilient, innovative and globally competitive, in the context of the geopolitical situation.
