
Moldovan president says Moldova faces external interference in parliamentary elections
President Maia Sandu today met a group of members of the European Parliament, who are in Moldova to monitor the parliamentary elections due on September 28.
During the meeting, the head of state drew attention to the ongoing external influence actions that threaten the democratic process. The Moldovan president highlighted the illegal funding of certain political groups, networks aimed at facilitating vote-buying, disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks and the preparation of potential violence as tools through which there are attempts to undermine the freely expressed will of the voters.
The head of state stressed that the authorities of Moldova were making coordinated efforts to counter these actions. At the same time, she emphasized the importance of vigilant monitoring that exposes manipulation attempts and helps protect the integrity of the elections.
As the guarantor of sovereignty, the Moldovan president reaffirmed her commitment to defend the citizens' right to a free and fair electoral process. She stressed that only Moldovans should decide for the country—this being the essence of our the state’s sovereignty.
