Moldovan president says Police have been on frontline of defending democracy, sovereignty of Moldova
President Maia Sandu has conveyed a message of gratitude and appreciation for the police officers who, day by day, contribute to protecting citizens, maintaining public order, and defending the state's sovereignty, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the foundation of the National Police.
The head of state emphasized that the National Police had evolved along with Moldova, adapting to an increasingly complex security environment, marked by new risks and hybrid threats. ‘’The last few years have been difficult for the democracy and sovereignty of Moldova. Our country has been the target of serious attempts to influence democratic processes, buy votes and undermine people's trust in the state. And you, in the National Police, have been on the front line of defense. so that the future of Moldova is decided by its citizens, not by external influences.’’
At the same time, President Maia Sandu drew attention to increasingly pressing problems, especially the phenomenon of drugs’ trafficking and consumption, which affects young people and communities throughout the country.
‘’We are also facing other new problems that require firm responses adapted to current realities. An example is the phenomenon of drugs’ trafficking and consumption, which increasingly affects our young people and communities. I know this fight is not easy, but I rely on your professionalism to reduce this danger, to protect children and to make our communities safer,’’ President Sandu emphasized.
In conclusion, the Moldovan president reiterated that strengthening the rule of law and integrity standards stayed essential for the European path of Moldova and encouraged the National Police to continue to act with professionalism and responsibility in the service of the citizens. The head of state awarded state distinctions, on the occasion of the professional day of Police.
