Moldovan PM attends inauguration of National Tennis Center
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu has attended the inauguration of the National Tennis Center, a modern sports complex that provides new conditions for the development of tennis and for the training of sportspeople from Moldova.
The inauguration event was marked by the presence of Simona Halep, former WTA world No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion, and Juan Martín del Potro, US Open champion.
In his speech, the PM underlined that the opening of the Center represented an important moment for the Moldovan sport and a clear signal that performance can be built at home, through modern infrastructure and access to conditions that meet international standards.
“This is a place where character, discipline, ambition and performance will be built. For years, many talented young people have had to go abroad to access good courts, competitions and professional training. Today, we are proving that Moldova can also offer conditions of international level,” said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
The PM highlighted the importance of investments in sports infrastructure, noting that sport means health, education, perseverance, and social cohesion: “Perhaps today we are inaugurating some tennis courts. But in fact, we are inaugurating opportunities,” the prime minister said.
The new infrastructure at the National Tennis Center allows Moldova to host high-level tournaments, including the Moldova Open, a tournament in the ATP Challenger 100 category. In addition, during June 10-13, 2026, the National Tennis Center will host the Davis Cup Europe Group III competition.
