Moldovan Prime Minister discussed advancing European integration of Moldova with Malta’s Prime Minister
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan held a phone conversation with his Maltese counterpart, Robert Abela, during which they discussed the Republic of Moldova’s European path, the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, and the security challenges in the region.
Against the backdrop of the progress made in the negotiation process, Tofan underscored the importance of opening the final two groups of negotiating chapters by the end of 2026, with the support of the European Union member states. The Republic of Moldova has already opened two groups of negotiating chapters with the EU, while two others are being opened today.
The two officials also discussed strengthening resilience in the face of hybrid threats, as well as expanding economic ties, particularly in the fields of digital services, tourism, the pharmaceutical industry and logistics.
In the year marking 30 years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Malta, Tofan reiterated his interest in deepening the bilateral partnership and invited his Maltese counterpart to visit Chișinău.
