Moldovan president has farewell meeting with Japan's Ambassador to Moldova

President Maia Sandu today met Japan's Ambassador to Yoichiro Yamada, on the occasion of the conclusion of his mandate in Moldova.

The head of state highly appreciated the support provided to Moldova by Japan in recent years, reflected in major development projects. Over the past five years, the Government of Japan has provided the country with non-reimbursable bilateral financial assistance and loans totaling more than 140 million dollars, contributing to boosting the agricultural sector, strengthening the medical system and improving the educational environment for children and young people.

Thus, 14 medical institutions across the country have been endowed with advanced equipment, essential for providing quality medical care. Among them, are the Clinical Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopedics, the Municipal Clinical Hospital Gheorghe Paladi, the Republican Diagnostic Medical Center of Chisinau, as well as health centers in Edinet, Leova, Causeni and other localities.

Additionally, over 20 million dollars was directed toward modernizing agricultural machinery and equipment, contributing to enhancing the competitiveness of this sector. Farmers also received financial support to mitigate the effects of the drought in the summer of 2022.

In the field of education and social assistance, the government of Japan has supported projects that improve access to modern resources and secure learning conditions. They include the establishment of a digital library at the State University of Moldova and the renovation of 12 kindergartens and secondary schools in Sireti, Comrat, Orhei, Rascani and other localities in the country.

At the end of the meeting, President Maia Sandu awarded Ambassador Yoichiro Yamada the Order of Honor distinction, in recognition of his contribution to strengthening the friendship and cooperation relationship between Moldova and Japan.
