Moldovan president has meeting with more European lawmakers
President Maia Sandu today met a delegation from the European Parliament, with discussions focused on Moldova’s European path and the support of European institutions for advancing the accession process.
The president welcomed the firm support in this regard on behalf of the European Parliament, an institution Moldova has many friends and supporters of its European aspirations.
The European Parliament regularly adopts resolutions in support of Moldova and has accelerated the Growth Plan for the country, a support package worth 1.9 billion euros for the Moldovan economy. At the same time, the institution has recently opened a liaison office in Chisinau, aimed at supporting the alignment of national legislation with EU acquis and strengthening the dialogue between the two legislative bodies.
The interlocutors also welcomed the establishment of the European Affairs Committee in the parliament of Moldova.
Besides the European agenda, the discussions addressed the security situation in the region and the international community's efforts to restore peace on the continent. Both President Maia Sandu and the MEPs reaffirmed firm support for Ukraine and for the resilience of the entire region.
The European Parliament delegation was led by Siegfried Muresan, vice-president, and included MEPs Dan Barna, Krzysztof Brejza, Maria Grapini, Liudas Mažylis and Jonas Sjöstedt. The lawmakers are in Chisinau on the occasion of the meeting of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee.
