Constitutional Court validated mandates of eight MPs

On 24 November, the Constitutional Court (CC) validated the mandates of eight members of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The decision was made following a request from the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

According to the CC's decision, the members are Ana Oglinda, Vladimir Rusu, Vasile Porțevschi, Oleg Canațui, and Efimia Bandalac from the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) list, Constantin Cuiumju and Nicolae Margarint from the Our Party list, and Angela Cutasevici from the ELECTORAL Bloc ALTERNATIVE list.

The validation of the parliamentary mandates follows the resignation of eight members: Maria Acbaș, Constantin Cheianu, Roman Cojuhari, Viorel Bostan, and Nicolae Draganel elected on the PAS list, Nina Cereteu and Stela Onuțu elected on the Our Party list, and Ion Ceban elected on the ELECTORAL Bloc ALTERNATIVE list. The resignation requests were submitted in the context in which the eight individuals chose to continue their activities in their current positions before obtaining the parliamentary mandates.

Moreover, substitute candidates Alexandr Severin and Rodica Țipovici from the Our Party list informed the CEC about their refusal to accept the parliamentary mandate.

Present at the meeting, CEC President Angelica Caraman noted that following the status verification of the proposed individuals, “the authorities have found no restrictions for occupying the deputy position and proposed the CC to validate the parliamentary mandates.”

Additionally, during the CC meeting, the new deputies confirmed that they “have no incompatibilities with the deputy status.”

The CC ruling is final and cannot be appealed; it comes into force on the date of adoption and is published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the Law on status of MP, the vacant seat is assigned to the next substitute on the list, and the CC decides the validation or non-validation of the mandate in case of electoral law violations.
