Deputy Prime Minister meets new PACE President: We reaffirmed firm commitment to continue close cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi held a meeting with new President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Petra Bayr. The discussions focused on recent developments within the organization and on prospects for cooperation in the context of the Republic of Moldova holding the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers.

The official underlined the importance of the solid and long‑term partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the Council of Europe and highlighted the essential role of the assistance provided over the past 30 years, including in supporting the accession to the European Union.

“I had the great pleasure of welcoming the new PACE President, Petra Bayr. On this occasion, I congratulated her on taking office and wished her every success in her new mandate. We discussed the recent developments within the organization and the prospects for cooperation in the context of the Republic of Moldova exercising the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. I thanked her for the constant support offered to the Republic of Moldova over the years and reaffirmed our firm commitment to continue close cooperation,” said Popșoi.

Petra Bayr reconfirmed the importance of continuing close cooperation with the Republic of Moldova, including through the Parliamentary Assembly. She also expressed support for the successful exercise by our country of the mandate of the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Petra Bayr was elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on 26 January. The mandate is for a period of one year, with the possibility of being renewed only once.

On 26-28 January, Popșoi is taking part in the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in his capacity as President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
