Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister to visit Italy

On 17 March, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi will pay a working visit to Trieste, Italian Republic. The official will attend a high-level conference organized on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Executive Secretariat of the Central European Initiative (CEI).

The event, organized at the initiative of Italy, the host state of the CEI Executive Secretariat, and Romania, which will hold the CEI Presidency-in-Office in 2026, will bring together foreign ministers, as well as representatives of parliaments, chambers of commerce and think tanks from the member states of the organization.

During the meeting, Popșoi will take part in the panel discussions on Promoting the CEI spirit: closer to each other in the region, stronger in Europe, together with the foreign ministers of Romania and Ukraine – Oana Țoiu and Andrii Sybiha – as well as his counterparts from Central and South-Eastern European countries: Marko Djurić (Serbia), Tanja Fajon (Slovenia), Elmedin Konaković (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Gordan Grlić-Radman (Croatia).

The ministers will discuss priorities for regional cooperation, the role of the Central European Initiative in supporting the European path of candidate states, as well as the promotion of economic and social development within the broader process of European reunification.

Popșoi will also participate in the plenary session dedicated to the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). The session will address the advantages and development prospects of this project, as well as its role in strengthening trade and infrastructure links in the context of current regional developments, by expanding logistical routes and facilitating trade flows.

Additionally, Popșoi will hold a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic, Antonio Tajani. The agenda of the talks will include strengthening the Moldovan–Italian dialogue, deepening bilateral cooperation and Italy’s support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
