DOC // Government decision on proposal to declare state of emergency published in Moldova's Official Journal

The Government Decision on the proposal to declare a state of emergency in the energy sector for a period of 60 days was published in the Official Journal today.

The decision today was approved by the government, which held an extraordinary meeting, after on March 23 evening, the main power line supplying Moldova – the Vulcanesti–Isaccea line – had been disconnected following Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure.

The authorities justified the need to introduce the state of emergency by stating that it will allow institutions to act quickly and in a coordinated manner, and to intervene with the necessary measures to protect the country’s and citizens’ energy security, in the context of the situation in the energy sector.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today will go to parliament, in order to present the draft regarding the introduction of the state of emergency.

The Isaccea–Vulcanesti overhead power line was disconnected on March 23 evening, following attacks on the energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine. Under these conditions, the authorities activated alternative energy supply routes, including the four 110 kV interconnection lines between Romania and Moldova.

The parliament is to convene today at 17:00 to examine the draft, announced Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. He canceled his participation in the Parliamentary Summit of the Three Seas Initiative, held in Zagreb on these days.
