EU condemns violation of Moldovan airspace by Russian drones
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas firmly condemned the violation of Moldova's airspace by Russian drones.
In an official statement, Kallas emphasized that such actions are unacceptable and pose a direct threat to the safety of civilian air traffic.
"Any violation of the airspace of a sovereign state is a grave violation of international law and cannot be tolerated," the EU official stated.
She also warned that the European Union will continue to monitor the situation and support the Republic of Moldova in ensuring national security and protecting its population. European officials have reaffirmed the EU's commitment to regional stability and respect for the territorial integrity of member states and partners.
"The European Union is investing 20 million euros this year in Moldova's air defense to support the strengthening of the country's security. The sky of the Republic of Moldova cannot become a victim of Russia's war," Kallas wrote in a post on the X network.
Experts warn that such incidents not only strain international relations but also increase the risks for airlines and civilian passengers, endangering the safety of commercial and private flights.
Authorities in Chisinau have repeatedly signaled the violation of the Republic of Moldova's airspace by Russian drones, which has led to national security warnings. The incident highlights regional tensions and the need for strict monitoring of aerial borders to protect the territory and population.
Since 2022, over 40 cases of unauthorized airspace overflights in the Republic of Moldova have been recorded.
