European Commission Vice-President welcomes Moldova’s progress in aligning with EU’s foreign, security policy

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas has welcomed the progress made by Moldova in the process of aligning with the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.

According to the Delegation of the European Union, the agenda of the European official continued in Chisinau with a bilateral meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi, during which Moldova’s progress on the path toward EU accession was discussed.

The discussions focused on the areas of foreign policy, security and defence, included in Chapter 31 of the negotiations on accession to the European Union. This chapter concerns the commitment of candidate states to gradually align themselves with the European Union’s policies and positions in the field of foreign and security policy.

According to the authorities, the dialogue between the two officials reconfirmed the European Union’s support for the European path of Moldova and for the reforms required in the process of European integration.

Moldova and the European Union are strengthening their cooperation in the field of security and defence, in the context of regional challenges triggered by the war in Ukraine. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas made statements to this effect in Chisinau, at a meeting with the Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii.

Kaja Kallas is paying an official visit to Moldova on May 7-8, with meetings scheduled with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi and other officials.
