European Parliament's vice president says wants Moldova to become EU member state that influences decisions
The European Parliament reaffirms its support for an accelerated process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union. Thus, the European forum supports the initiation of chapter negotiations, as provided for in a recently approved resolution. Vice President of the European Parliament Victor Negrescu made statements to this effect at the conference titled, Parliament of Moldova - Full Commitment to European Integration.
The official welcomed the active involvement of Moldova's parliament in the EU accession process.
"In this important process, we need a committed Parliament to transpose European legislation and contribute to consultations with civil society and academia. This consultation is crucial for broad social support. Efforts must be strengthened in communication, ensuring a successful implementation, so that Moldovan citizens live better and the business environment benefits from a predictable environment for conducting their activities, enabling everyone to harness the benefits of European regulations," said Victor Negrescu.
The vice president of the European Parliament reiterated that European authorities were willing to provide necessary expertise to Moldovan MPs and cabinet members, ‘’in order to learn how this legislative transposition process is carried out."
"My call is to continue the efforts to transpose European legislation. I want Moldova to become an EU member state that influences decisions, proposes important ideas and solutions. I am referring to the need for more support for agriculture, small- and medium-sized enterprises, culture, and tourism - areas where Moldova can influence things and even become an opinion leader. We stand with you throughout this process. Much can be learned from Romania's experience, both positive lessons and challenges our country has faced. Therefore, a good relationship between the government and parliament of Moldova is crucial. I urge you to develop mechanisms for participation and public consultation, which can only aid the success of this effort. I assure you of every support in this process and our willingness to work together," emphasized Victor Negrescu.
The conference, Parliament of Moldova - Full Commitment to European Integration, takes place in the context of the European Commission's Enlargement Report published on November 4, 2025, which confirms the substantial progress of the country over the past 12 months and highlights the need to accelerate the legislative alignment to European standards.
The event brings together representatives of the parliament, the government, the European Parliament Office in Chisinau, the EU Delegation, development partners, local authorities, academia, civil society organizations and the media.
