Foreign Ministry in talks with Ukrainian authorities about drone exploded in Orhei: Responsibility for any drone that reaches our country’s territory lies with Russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is in ongoing talks with the Ukrainian authorities regarding the drone that exploded in Orhei. The authorities in Chișinău announce that “based on initial information, the drone is most likely of Ukrainian origin”.

According to the MFA, regardless of the origin of the aircraft, “responsibility for any drone that reaches the territory of the Republic of Moldova lies with Russia, which started an illegal war in the neighboring country.”

“We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainians who are fighting and losing their lives for the freedom of their country, but also for peace on the European continent, including for peace in the Republic of Moldova,” the institution said.

A drone exploded last night outside the built-up area of the locality of Lopatna, Orhei district. The alert was received around midnight from a resident of Lopatna village, who noticed the flying object and, shortly afterwards, a blast. The area was immediately cordoned off, secured, and monitored in accordance with protocols. The authorities announced that no one was injured in the incident.

The Ministry of Defense said that the fragments found are being examined in order to determine the origin of the aircraft and the circumstances of the incident. The responsible institutions are continuing to document the case and to monitor the situation.
