Moldova, Kingdom of Morocco sign cooperation documents in foreign affairs, economic relations

Moldova and the Kingdom of Morocco today signed several cooperation documents in the fields of foreign affairs, economic and commercial relations, culture and education. The documents were signed during an official visit to Chisinau by Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita.

Among the document, there are the Joint Declaration of the foreign ministers, an Agreement on the Abolition of Visas for Diplomatic, Special and Service Passports, as well as Memorandums of Understanding on political consultations, economic diplomacy, cultural cooperation and collaboration between diplomatic institutes.

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi said that the meeting represented a significant step in deepening the Moldovan-Moroccan cooperation, and the signing of several important documents showed the shared commitment to expand collaboration.

“Together with Nasser Bourita, we signed a Joint Declaration focusing on strengthening the relations in such areas as trade, education, culture, economic diplomacy and regional security. The Declaration includes the Kingdom of Morocco's support for the European integration process of Moldova and for our country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. In terms of economy, we discussed expanding trade exchanges, attracting investments and developing joint projects in such strategic fields as renewable energy, agriculture, green technologies and tourism,” said Mihai Popsoi.

For his part, Minister Nasser Bourita emphasized that the today's visit proved the common ambition to renew relations in a real partnership.

“Our dialogue showed us how close we are. I believe we are opening a new chapter in our relations. Morocco and Moldova share common values and believe in the fundamental principles of international law, such as sovereignty, territorial integrity and a constructive neighborhood. The Kingdom of Morocco is proud to be a partner of a country that has shown will and reliability on its European integration way,” said Nasser Bourita.

The two officials highlighted the potential for cooperation in such sectors as trade, food security, tourism, green energy, digital technologies and agriculture. In the context, the creation of a Bilateral Economic Committee was proposed, aimed at facilitating joint projects and interaction between business environments.

As for the cultural and educational matters, the sides agreed to boost the academic exchanges and promote common heritage. At the same time, at the multilateral level, both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to actively cooperate within international organizations, including the UN and La Francophonie.

Minister Nasser Bourita pays an official visit to Moldova today, the first at this level since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, marking a defining moment in the deepening of the Moldovan-Moroccan partnership.
