Moldovan Presidency's special envoy for European affairs says Nordic countries see Moldova as part of European family

Accelerating the reforms for joining the European Union (EU) today was discussed by the special envoy for European affairs and strategic partnerships of Moldova’s  Presidency, Nicu Popescu, who paid a working visit to Stockholm and Oslo, with representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs from Sweden and Norway.

According to Popescu, the meetings were ‘’very good’’ and focused on advancing the European path of Moldova and strengthening cooperation in essential areas. The Moldovan official and representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Stockholm and Oslo discussed the energy security, as well as the joint efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region.

‘’Nordic countries have a lot of experience in development, energy and governance, and for us, it's important to bring these good practices home, adapted to Moldova's realities,’’ said Popescu.

Nicu Popescu emphasized that both Sweden and Norway considered Moldova part of the European family and are willing to provide support for the country to advance firmly on this path.

‘’This gives us confidence, but also more responsibility: to continue the reforms, to protect our democracy and to keep Moldova on a clear, European path, in a time when peace can no longer be taken for granted,’’ the envoy also said.

The visit of Nicu Popescu to the Nordic capitals is part of a string of diplomatic contacts aimed at strengthening international support for the European integration of Moldova, in a regional context marked by security challenges.
