Moldovan president, on visit to Chisinau, says his presence in Moldova guarantee of continued support on behalf Romania for Moldova
My presence in Chisinau is a guarantee of the continued support provided by Romania to Moldova. We share the same set of values and together have the same aspirations. President of Romania Nicusor Dan today made statements to this effect, during a press conference held jointly with the head of state, Maia Sandu, in Chisinau.
The Romanian official emphasized that this was his first official visit as head of state and represents a ‘’symbolic decision.’’
‘’I am quite pleased to be in Chisinau today. This is my first official bilateral visit as President of Romania. I wanted it to take place in Chisinau, because it is obvious that we have a special, heartfelt relationship. Presently, Moldova is experiencing an important moment, I mean the process of joining the European Union. It is obvious that we share the same set of values and have the same aspirations,’’ said Nicusor Dan.
The two officials discussed infrastructure and energy interconnection projects, in order to enhance the country's independence and bring it closer to the EU market.
‘’Today, we discussed more concrete issues. There is a need to strengthen the bilateral relationship in all fields. I refer to the energy sector, interconnection and infrastructure projects, so that Moldova is closer to the European market. We talked about border crossing processes, the necessity for Romanian business agents to invest more in Moldova. Another subject was the continuation of projects in the education sector,’’ stated Nicusor Dan.
The Cotroceni leader reiterated that Romania supported Moldova's efforts along the European integration path.
'We congratulate you for the determination in reforming the state and thus accessing to the European Union - a guarantee for prosperity, institutional predictability and for the security of Moldova. As I have said before, Romania supports your efforts both diplomatically, in regard to our partners, and concretely, as far as our expertise is needed in certain fields. This means that all mistakes we have made over time are included in this expertise,’’ Nicusor Dan stressed.
The Romanian president also referred to the ‘’threats’’ that might come on behalf of Russia, in the context of the war in Ukraine.
‘’The greatest threat of the present is the relationship with the Russian Federation, beyond the war in Ukraine, which triggers insecurity throughout the area. We must be quite attentive and have common means of responding to the hybrid war. We talked today about collaboration to this end. The most important goal of Moldova is joining the European Union. You have our support here; an important stage comes next – the parliamentary elections on September 28. I am very optimistic that, as it has happened before, the citizens of Moldova will have the necessary civic spirit to maintain the country's European direction,’’ the official noted.
In conclusion, the Romanian president invited the head of state Maia Sandu to visit Romania.
‘’Thank you for the dialogue we had and for the good collaboration. I received a warm welcome and I invite you to visit Bucharest,’’ Nicusor Dan added.
President of Romania Nicusor Dan today is on his first official visit to Chisinau. He held bilateral talks with the head of state, Maia Sandu. At the same time, the official will have meetings with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
