Prime Minister: Today we celebrate Romania together and reaffirm our firm commitment to build indestructible relationship between Chișinău and Bucharest
Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu sent a congratulatory message on Romania's National Day, reaffirming the deep ties between the two states and the importance of the support provided by Romania in our country's European path.
"December 1st has a double significance for all who feel Romanian and love Romania: we celebrate the ties that unite us - through the same heroes of history, through the same ancestral songs, through the same scars of the past - but we also celebrate common aspirations for a future in freedom, dignity, and peace", stated the Prime Minister.
The official emphasized that the closeness to Romania is fundamental for the country's development and its firm anchoring in the European space.
"Everything that connects us to Romania makes the European path we are building not just a chance for prosperity and security, but also the only natural road. Today we celebrate Romania together and reaffirm our firm commitment to building an indestructible relationship between Chișinău and Bucharest", Alexandru Munteanu also mentioned.
The Prime Minister highlighted the decisive role of Romania in supporting the Republic of Moldova at key moments:
"Romania is a benchmark for us. We look with respect and gratitude at all the support offered over time. We admire Romania's progress, and its solidarity gives us confidence that the Republic of Moldova will succeed as well".
In conclusion, the Prime Minister addressed a festive message to all Romanians.
Romania was one of the first states to recognize the Republic of Moldova, just a few hours after the declaration of independence (August 27, 1991). Diplomatic relations, at the embassy level, were established on August 29, 1991. The Romanian Embassy was the first diplomatic representation opened by a state in the capital of the Republic of Moldova (it started its activity on January 20, 1992).
Since 2014, Romania has been the main commercial partner of the Republic of Moldova.
In over 30 years of established bilateral relations, with Romania's help, several large-scale strategic projects have been implemented in the Republic of Moldova, including the construction of the Iași–Chișinău gas pipeline, the renovation of kindergartens and cultural buildings, as well as the creation of the SMURD program. Romania has supported the Republic of Moldova in overcoming the energy crisis and is currently carrying out projects to connect to European infrastructure and energy systems.
In 2025, the authorities in the field of internal affairs in both countries agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of security, including through legislative and institutional coordination, to face regional threats.
