Republic of Moldova marks 12 years since signing Association Agreement with EU
The Republic of Moldova marks today 12 years since the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union. The document has strengthened the basis of the relationship with the EU, promoting political association, dialogue, and the economic integration of our country into the European area.
The EU Delegation to Chisinau emphasized that the signing of the Association Agreement represented an important moment in deepening cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the EU.
“Over these years, the agreement has contributed to expanding access for Moldovan products to the European market, supporting reforms, developing infrastructure, and implementing projects dedicated to local communities, education, and the business environment,” the EU Delegation to Chisinau underlined.
During this period, the Republic of Moldova has also taken important steps on the path of European integration: it submitted its application for accession to the European Union, obtained candidate country status and, recently, officially started accession negotiations with the opening of the first cluster of negotiation chapters.
“The partnership has created more opportunities for young people, entrepreneurs, and citizens, bringing the Republic of Moldova closer to European standards in multiple fields. Twelve years of cooperation, investments, and projects that continue to contribute to the modernization and development of the Republic of Moldova,” the EU Delegation to Chisinau noted.
The Republic of Moldova – European Union Association Agreement was signed on 27 June 2014 and ratified in a plenary session of the Chisinau Legislature on 2 July 2014. The European Parliament ratified the document during the plenary sitting of 13 November 2014.
