Romanian president says Romania, Moldova must strengthen cooperation in security field
Romania and the Republic of Moldova will deepen their cooperation in the field of security, including in order to respond to the violations of their airspace by Russian drones. Romanian President Nicusor Dan made statements to this effect after consultations with President Maia Sandu in Chisinau today.
“The violation of airspace by Russian drones represents a constant challenge for our authorities and we will deepen our cooperation in this area,” Nicusor Dan said in a post.
Security, resilience, the fight against disinformation and hybrid threats were among the topics discussed by the two heads of state. Nicusor Dan also stressed the need to counter the pressure coming from Russia.
Another concrete topic addressed by the two officials was energy security. Romania and Moldova agreed to continue their efforts regarding interconnection projects, with Nicusor Dan emphasizing that there is a “strong shared commitment” in this field.
The President of Romania also referred to the support provided to Moldova for European integration. He praised the progress made so far, noting that Bucharest would continue to provide technical expertise and diplomatic support to accelerate the process of accession to the European Union.
“Reforms must continue at a sustained pace, at all levels, and Romania will stay close,” said Nicusor Dan.
Romanian President Nicusor Dan is in Chisinau on the occasion of Moldova marking 35 years since the proclamation of its independence. The Romanian head of state also took part in the military parade dedicated to Independence Day.
