Support for Moldova’s EU accession reconfirmed though joint declaration adopted by Moldova–Poland Parliamentary Assembly

The consistent support provided to Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union has been reconfirmed through a joint declaration adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of Moldova and Poland (PA RM–RP). The document was approved at the 11th session of the PA RM–RP, hosted today by Poland’s Sejm (parliament).

The joint declaration was signed by Deputy Parliament Speaker, Co‑Chair of the PA RM–RP Doina Gherman, as well as by Polish Co‑Chair, Szymon Hołownia, Deputy Marshal of Poland’s Sejm. The document addresses two major topics: Moldova’s process of accession to the European Union, including the experience and best practices of Poland on its path to the EU, and security in the Central and Eastern European region.

“As for the European integration dimension, the Parliamentary Assembly of Poland and Moldova welcomes the progress achieved by our country in the accession negotiations and emphasizes the importance of maintaining strong political support from EU member states, so that Moldova can reach its ambitious goal of accession by 2030,” said the Communication and Public Relations Department Directorate of Moldova’s parliament.

The document welcomes the opening of the first negotiation cluster, “Fundamental Values,” and supports the rapid advancement of the accession process by opening, as soon as possible, negotiations on all the other clusters, based on the merits and progress proved by Moldova.

At the same time, it recognizes the commitment of Moldova’s authorities to reforming the rule of law, combating corruption, modernizing public administration and strengthening civil society, while highlighting the role of  Poland as a key partner in this process through expert‑level cooperation, development assistance programme, and the transfer of legislative experience.

On the security dimension, the Parliamentary Assembly underlines that both Moldova and Poland, as states directly bordering the conflict area, feel the consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, with a negative impact on the security situation, economic stability and social resilience.

The declaration welcomes the solidarity shown by the authorities and citizens of both states towards Ukraine, as well as the support provided to Ukrainian refugees, and it reaffirms political support for Ukraine in its efforts to defend peace, freedom and territorial integrity.

At the same time, the document reaffirms support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Moldova, and supports the strengthening of cooperation in the field of border security, the fight against cross‑border crime, and the enhancement of the resilience of Moldova’s authorities in the face of hybrid threats.

The Parliamentary Assembly of Moldova and Poland today assembled in Warsaw for the 11th session, hosted by Poland’s Sejm. Established in Chisinau on July 25, 2011, it is an inter‑parliamentary consultative body, the mission of which is to develop common positions on issues and projects of bilateral interest.

The meeting took place one day after the Moldova – European Union Intergovernmental Conference, held in Luxembourg on June 15, which marked the official opening of the country’s accession negotiations with the EU for Cluster 1 – “Fundamental Values,” considered the foundation of the entire European integration process.
