VIDEO // New round of consultations with parliamentary factions on local public administration reform in Moldova

A new round of consultations on local public administration reform today took place at the parliament and brought together representatives of the parliamentary factions. During the discussions, Government’s Secretary General Alexei Buzu said that the reform underway would produce a real change in the way our communities live and develop.

“We had a new round of consultations with the parliamentary factions. We are all interested in building a concept that is as clear and functional as possible, which responds to people’s needs. Local public administration reform does not mean papers and procedures, but a real change in the way our communities live and develop,” Alexei Buzu noted.

The official said that a very important aspect of the reform would be the creation of “stronger mayoralties for developed localities.” According to him, at present, there are 347 mayoralties that are in a stage of amalgamation.

“This is a quite good result. We have seen that, in the last two months, practically every week, decisions are being adopted to initiate the amalgamation process. What we want to do before the amalgamation process is finalized is to bring services closer, to provide more services; through the CUPS (Unified Public Service Centers), the services will be of higher quality, faster and more user‑friendly for citizens,” said Alexei Buzu.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu emphasized that it is important for services meant for citizens to remain in every locality and to be more accessible.

“Our obligation is to ensure that services remain in the locality and become more accessible. There are solutions. Large communities are strong communities,” Igor Grosu noted.

In late last January, the government officially announced the launch of the process of preparing the local public administration reform, as part of efforts to modernize the administration and improve the quality of public services provided to the population.

A video of the consultations is available on the Parliament’s official Facebook page.
