Giurgiulești–Reni border crossing point temporarily closed following drone attack on Bolgrad
On the night of December 2, 2025, at 01:20, the activity at Giurgiulești–Reni border crossing was temporarily suspended after Moldovan authorities were informed of a drone attack on the city of Bolgrad, in southern Ukraine.
According to the Border Police, the Air Operations Service of the Ministry of Defense detected on radar several drones moving from Reni towards Bolgrad. Consequently, all sectors of the Border Police in the south of the Republic of Moldova were alerted, with continuous monitoring measures of the airspace along the state border being established.
At the same time, the State Border Service of Ukraine informed the Moldovan side that the city of Bolgrad was under attack by Shahed-type drones. Between 01:15 and 01:30, mobile patrols of the Cișmichioi and Copceac sectors, as well as the stationary patrol at the Vulcănești crossing point, reported multiple explosions above the Ukrainian city, as well as the activity of anti-aircraft systems.
At 02:01, the air alert in Ukraine was lifted, and traffic through the Giurgiulești–Reni border crossing resumed.
Authorities note that the airspace of the Republic of Moldova was not overflown and that no risks or dangers for the population were recorded in the national territory, in the border area. The situation remains under continuous monitoring, and the citizens of the Republic of Moldova are out of any danger.
